ANSM Annual Conference 2023

Association of Nova Scotia Museums Annual Conference

October 16–18, 2023
Baddeck, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

About Our Conference

Theme: Museum Care: Care of Self, Care of Team, Care of Community

Museum conferences regularly focus on care of collections, care of facilities, and care for exhibits. This year, it is time to care for the museum people who make it all happen.

“Museum Care” is necessary to ensure a healthy heritage sector. The last few years have been filled with particularly challenging times. Museums have risen to face these challenges time and time again. This has resulted in inspiring examples of community service, but also a sense of fatigue. This conference hopes to celebrate successes and help inspire solutions.

The Conference will explore three streams:

Care of Self:
explore how passion for our work is not enough to protect museum workers from burn-out.

Care of Team:
explore how the workforce is changing and how we can support our teams at all stages of their careers from emerging museum professionals to seasoned professionals preparing for their successors.

Care of Community:
explore how museums are branching out from traditional offerings to support their communities in new and creative ways, especially in times of need.

In addition to a thoughtful and practical series of speakers, the Conference will provide many opportunities to network with your colleagues, decompress after a busy summer, and experience Cape Breton hospitality at its finest.
