Hi everyone! \"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

My name is Erika, and I\u2019m thrilled to be interning with the Association of Nova Scotia Museums (ANSM) for the next 12 weeks as part of a field placement course through Saint Mary\u2019s University! I\u2019m in my final year of pursuing a dual degree with a BSc in Biology and a BA with a double major in Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Public Humanities and Heritage. During my time here, my main focus will be to help develop guidelines and instructions for the digitization process of audiocassette recordings.<\/span><\/p>\n

My journey in the museum sector began as a summer student at one of ANSM\u2019s member museums, the West Hants Historical Society, which sparked my love for this work. I was there for two years and worked as a researcher and assistant curator before finding a curatorial internship with the zoology curator at the Nova Scotia Museum. My most recent work started in May as a heritage interpreter at Uniacke Estate Museum Park. Although I\u2019ve had the opportunity to work in several museums, I\u2019m eager to broaden my horizons and gain a new perspective in this line of work through ANSM!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve lived in Nova Scotia my whole life. I grew up in rural West Hants but moved to Halifax for university. I miss aspects of country life as I was raised on a hobby farm with horses, chickens, turkeys, and even a llama at one point. I\u2019m only an hour\u2019s drive from home, so I make trips back quite often. I love enjoying nature and getting to see my parents and pets. On the other hand, I also prefer the convenience of city life\u2014especially trying out all the cafes and restaurants!<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m very excited to be here and have this experience! I cannot wait to learn more about the museums in Nova Scotia and what they have to offer their visitors and communities. I\u2019m looking forward to getting started at ANSM!<\/span><\/p>\n
