<\/p>\nAssociation of Nova Scotia Museums and Partners Collaborate on a new project to share the story of Ha<\/b>lifax\u2019s first Black <\/b>Physician, Dr. Clement Ligoure<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

Halifax, NS<\/b> \u2013 The <\/span>L'Association des mus\u00e9es de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse<\/span><\/a> (ANSM) is proud to announce a new province-wide initiative <\/span>celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Clement Ligoure, Halifax\u2019s first Black physician, thanks to support from The John Bragg <\/a><\/span>Award for Atlantic Canada. This award honours projects that highlight the stories of individuals who have shaped Atlantic Canadian history.<\/span><\/p>\n In partnership with the <\/span>Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Africville Museum<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Loyalist Connections Creative Society<\/span><\/a>, and community museums across Nova Scotia, ANSM will develop a travelling exhibit and educational resources to share the powerful and often overlooked story of Dr. Ligoure \u2014 a physician, editor, advocate, and hero of the Halifax <\/span>Explosion.<\/span><\/p>\n Born in Trinidad and trained in medicine in Canada, Dr. Ligoure became a tireless advocate for African Nova Scotians. He was an editor of <\/span>The Atlantic Advocate<\/span><\/i>, provided critical care to over 200 people per day in the wake of the Halifax Explosion, and was a recruiter for the No. 2 Construction Battalion \u2014 Canada\u2019s only all-Black battalion in military history.<\/span><\/p>\n The project will feature:<\/span><\/p>\n Together, these materials aim to deepen understanding of African Nova Scotian heritage and inspire youth by connecting them with powerful stories of community, resilience, and leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n For more information, please contact:<\/span> Juanita Peters<\/span> Devin Casario<\/span> Russell Grosse<\/span>\n
