NOTICE (Posted March 20): ANSM has decided, with the safety of everyone at heart, to cancel our upcoming Museums 101 course. We will be in touch with those that have already registered, and will be issuing full refunds in the near future.
Museums 101 is the introductory module for a series of eight courses covering core museological functions: collections management & curatorship, interpretation, museums & community, facility management, management & governance, and marketing.
Museums 101 introduces:
- Origins & evolution of museums in society
- Ethics & professional guidelines
- Core functions of museums
- Trends & challenges for museums
The workshop format offers a combination of lecture, group discussion and exercises. It provides an excellent opportunity for new museum board members, new staff, consultants and government staff to receive a good overview of what museums are all about and the role they play in society.
Having worked with museums in four provinces, Karin brings a combination of education and practical experience to the course, providing real-world examples to the discussions and exercises. You can read her bio on the ANSM website here.
This is an excellent time to begin the full eight module program. The program is offered over three years and may be taken in any order. A certificate of completion is provided for each individual unit and the full program.
