Event location: Hooked Rug Museum of North America, 9849 St Margarets Bay Rd, Hubbards, NS B0J 1T0
Museums 101 is the introductory module for a series of eight workshops covering core museological functions: collections management & curatorship, interpretation, museums & community, facility management, management & governance and marketing.
Museums 101 introduces:
- origins & evolution of museums in society
- unique features of museums
- core functions of museums
- trends & challenges for museums
The workshop format offers a combination of lecture, group discussion and exercises. It provides an excellent opportunity for new museum board members, new staff, consultants and government staff to receive a good overview of what museums are all about and the role they play in society.
This is an excellent time to begin the full eight module program. The program is offered over three years and may be taken in any order. A certificate of completion is provided for each individual unit and the full program.
You can read more about this course by downloading the Museums 101 Info Sheet found here at the bottom of the Museum Studies Program Page.
