Introducing Ruah!

Hello Readers!
My name is Ruah Hoeg, and I’ll be the next intern for ANSM. I’m a lifelong Nova Scotia resident and a BA student at Saint Mary’s University. I’m a third-year student with a double major in Ancient Studies and Public Humanities and Heritage, and a minor in Archaeology. I work at a house museum called Lordly House during the summer in Chester, NS, which is a member of ANSM. Working there for the past three summers has strengthened my interest in heritage and the humanities and given me practical experience that I hope to apply in both my professional and personal life. While my academic focus is the ancient Roman Empire, my goal is to build a strong foundation in history, classics, and the humanities so I can branch into the museum sector professionally.

While pursuing my degree, I’ve had so many amazing opportunities and experiences, such as working with the Barbados Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and going on an archaeological dig in Italy. I look forward to adding this internship to that list! I’ve always loved museums, and hope to work in the heritage sector once I finish my education.
In my free time, I enjoy painting and chatting with friends, but I spend most of my time on my studies and in my volunteer groups. I especially enjoy getting involved in my arts-centred non-profit called the Post Script Artist Collective, as well as the SMU Ancient Studies Society!
I’m super eager to get started on some of the projects here at ANSM, and I’m certainly looking forward to the work I’ll be helping with during my placement term. Thank you to the team at ANSM for making this placement possible! I think it’s super important to engage with community members, especially during such a difficult time for Nova Scotia’s heritage sector.
